Trahan Peak Performance Golf Swing ReviewTrahan PPGS Swing - click here

Ya, ya ya ... we’ve all heard the promises. Hit the ball 20, 30, 50 yards further! Fire your irons to the pin with laser like accuracy. Makes you want to hate lasers and wonder about the days when it was good enough to hit it as straight as the crow flies (who knew crows flew straight?). What about this Trahan Peak Performance Golf Swing?

Over the past decade, I have tried the Natural swing, the Gravity swing, the Stack and Tilt, and a whole host of other “theories” with middling or mixed results. Some of them were frankly really bad (you know who you are!), others required a ton of practice to even get and keep some semblance of proficiency.

I returned to the conventional swing, but it too had its limitations and was really hard on my back, neck and hips. Laugh if you will, but you will get there too! What I am searching for is a swing that combines power and consistency. I don’t want to blow a drive OB right in the middle of a solid ball striking round. Secondly, I don’t want to trade off accuracy for “driver impotence”. Give me Viagra or give me death!

And I certainly don’t want to hit my 6 iron where I used to hit my 8 iron. Most importantly, I wanted a swing that a 14 year old could pick up and knock the crap out of the ball ... and still find the fairway.

Off I went to the range after spending about an hour going through Don Trahan’s  Peak Performance Golf Swing downloadable videos. I spread my “road test” over two days. The main reason for this was to test how the old body would respond on day two. Don claims you can “get” his swing by the time you finish a couple of buckets of balls. Since I am basically lazy, I took the extra large bag and threw caution to the wind.

Here are the results. I worked hard at making sure I was doing the fundamentals properly: grip, riding a skinny horse, knees braced to the outside, clubhead in the catcher’s mitt, and the limited turn and lift (hint - take an index card with the 5 or so fundamentals written down and tape it to your golf bag).

The first 9 or 10 seven irons were hit somewhat solid but leaked to the right; about 20 yards off line. Slow your breathing, big fellow, and reduce the angles in your wrist ( a Trahan admonition you avoid at your peril). I next concentrated on making a three quarter swing as Don advocates. This is a lot harder than you think especially when you have been swinging somewhere between John Daly and Jumbo Ozaki for most of your golfing life.

Ever had one of those jaw dropping, goofy smile, oh my gawd moments? Thought the first one was a fluke (notice how brutally we treat success!), but there was no way to deny the power and ball flight of the next 6 or 7 shots. The transformation was both audible and visible. The only other guy on the range (a good twenty years my junior), began to discreetly monitor my progress. You simply can’t deny the sound a well struck golf shot.

Oh hell I said. Out with the driver and damn the torpedoes! The sure sign of man succumbing to the seduction of raw power. I fully expected the ball to flail wildly to the right like a startled pheasant. But no, it went where the fabled crows fly. Both straight and long far down the range. And it did so again and again. I even glanced over to compare with my range mate and it was clear that my drives were still in full flight going over top of where his had landed. Go, Viagra, go!

Is this another half-baked swing theory? Day two clearly convinced me it was not. Frankly, if a PGA Tour pro, D.J. Trahan, relies on this for his livelihood, it has got to stand up to pressure. And be repeatable. Which it is.

One of the great side benefits of this swing is the fact that you have no back pain whatsoever! Unbelievable. And get this, you can “try” the swing for a whole year and if you are not satisfied you can ask for a refund but keep the dvds anyway!!! Like how goofy is that?

My rating would be 5 stars except for the fact that I really think the dvd’s could be better indexed so you can navigate from one to the other better (this is especially true when you are trying to locate a specific technique or lesson). When the production folks cure this, they will get 5 stars. For now 4 and a half it is.

It is great content and well worth it.  Go here to learn more.
