The Perfect Way to Learn To Golf?Purepoint golf -click herepurepoint golf - click here

There are only two players that everyone agrees could hit the ball consistently where they aimed. The first is Ben Hogan whom I have only seen on film. The other is Moe Norman, the iconoclastic Canadian pro, who I saw play firsthand on several occasions. How did they learn to golf their way?

Imagine that! Of the literally millions who have played the game, only two guys could shoot straight!

Unfortunately, Moe was simply too eccentric to be able to pass on his knowledge in a comprehensive fashion. His insights were more like those of a zen master speaking in parables and poetic revelations. You could divine fragments of insight, but you were never given something that looked like a blueprint. Subsequently, oceans of ink have been spilled trying to produce order from the chaos.

Moe’s swing has now become more a captive of clever marketing than a real grasp of what made his move unique and powerful. This copycat swing methodology has not captured his explosive action through the ball. In fact, what the vast majority of players (myself included) have discovered is that they experience a significant loss of distance in all clubs throughout the bag.

In a former life I was a tour caddy on one of those satellite tours. Moe was in our group for two days in a row. In addition to his well documented “social awkwardness”, Moe absolutely hated slow play. He would wander around talking to himself while waiting for the group ahead to finally hit or putt out. I frequently saw him drop 5 or 6 balls into a bunker on a hole we just played (usually he was in the last group late in the tournament) and splash them out to amuse himself. He was every tournament organizer’s worst nightmare!

As caddies we swapped lots of Moe stories and I am sure the legend now has outgrown the reality. The one irrefutable fact is the man could hit it better than anyone in his prime and when he graduated to the senior circuit, he could still hit it with bewildering accuracy.

I remember on one occasion shagging for Moe in an exhibition. When I asked where he wanted me to position myself, he pointed to where he was going to land the ball with each club. He then added that I could likely catch them in the bucket on the first or second hop. He wasn’t kidding.

Whereas Moe was eccentric, Ben Hogan was by all accounts laconic, bordering on surly on occasion. It is generally agreed that Hogan never fully disclosed his ball striking secrets to the golfing community. Unless he left behind a golfing “ Da Vinci Code”, as yet unrevealed, we are unlikely to ever know the full secrets of his incredible talent.

Legions of golf pros, accomplished players and golf instructors have tried to “reverse engineer” the Hogan action throughout the years. But the mystery persists. I think Mr. Hogan wanted it that way. His only advice is to "find it in the dirt”. The kind of advice a flinty Puritan gives to his offspring.

You notice that no one calls him Ben: as in Arnie, Jack, Phil or Tiger. He did not reciprocate the golf fan’s warmth and admiration.

So what is the answer to the question of whether there is a perfect golf swing? Well the answer to that is yes. The fact is, you can’t do it; although you can come perilously close to mastering it!

What you have to first grasp is what the human body is capable of. And you have to understand, as well, the physics that come to bear on this swinging motion. Sounds complex!

Or, you can choose to head to the driving range and hit 500 balls a day until you “dig it out of the dirt”.
 Sounds overwhelming!

It is, if you have to start from scratch to figure that all out.

However, what if you could stand on the shoulders of great golf teachers and researchers who have discovered the answer to these questions? What if they agreed to share this knowledge with you?

What if you could attain a great swing in a fraction of the time that it requires to learn a conventional golf swing? And what if you could get significant improvement even from the very first day of using this approach? Interesting... eh?
